Emily to Gremily
The Unfiltered Monologue: Questions, Travels, and Tales of Mischief
Welcome to my first-ever solo podcast episode! After diving straight into conversations with guests in previous episodes, I wanted to take a moment to properly introduce myself and answer some of your burning questions. As a one-woman operation handling everything from recording to analytics, I've been thrilled to watch this podcast grow – especially seeing listeners tuning in from places like Australia and Brazil!
From astrological compatibility to hangover remedies, I'm answering questions that give you a glimpse into my world. I share my entertainment obsessions and my passionate love for Stassi Schroeder making Vanderpump Villa my most anticipated upcoming show. While admitting I don't read as much as I'd like, I enthusiastically recommend "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" as a book that captivated me completely.
We delve into how 2020 went from being my "year of travel" to my "year of isolation" and I wrap up hilariously chaotic listener "Gremlin stories" involving birthday party escapes and strip club heists complete with stolen Versace sunglasses.

hey guys. So it's emily of emily to gremily. I'm hopping on here doing a solo podcast. This is the first solo episode I'm doing of the series. Um, just wanted to come on here and answer some of your questions. I threw it out there on social media for you guys to send me questions you wanted me to ask. I went through and picked some of my favorites. If yours didn't get picked, then it'll come back around on like the next solo episode. I got a lot of relationship questions which I figure I should probably dedicate like a own separate episode to, rather than just sprinkle them in throughout this one. So, yeah, I figured let's answer some questions and I didn't really do a proper introduction of myself in the first episode.
Speaker 1:We kind of just jumped right into it. Introduction and myself in the first episode, we kind of just jumped right into it. I wanted to start this podcast just like to hang out with my friends, talk not even get my word out there just, you know, have a conversation with you, know, my friends, with all of you out there. I've noticed I've had like a really big jump in followers on mainly Instagram, tiktok I'm still working on it, but yeah, instagram and I'm a one woman show. I do all my own analytics. I do the you know, recording the editing, the video, audio, etc. Etc. So in watching my own analytics I noticed I got a real jump after the second episode and I have a lot of new listeners. I can see where you guys are, even though that sounds kind of creepy, but I can see that you guys are in. Like, australia and Brazil are my two main countries outside of the US, because I'm located in Los Angeles, california. So, yeah, if you're living here or if you're living outside of the US, I'm really interested to know how you found out about the podcast and how you guys started listening, how you found me on, if you found me through Instagram, all that good stuff. I'm just curious on what's working, what isn't working. So make sure to send it in and let me know how you found me.
Speaker 1:So yeah, this podcast has kind of been like a year or so in the making. I had been talking about it for a little over a year at this point and then just gathering, you know all the equipment which I didn't know anything about starting a podcast. I didn't know what microphone to use, what lights, the programs, nothing. So I learned everything like on my own, how to do it. I almost gave up like I don't know 10 different times because I got flustered and frustrated and I didn't know what I was doing. But it all worked out and yeah, now we're here and it's kind of slowly becoming successful. I don't know, I don't want to, you know, count my chickens before they hatch, but I don't know. I'm excited for what the future brings.
Speaker 1:And let's answer some of your questions. Question it's kind of a two in one what sign do you get along with the best and what sign do you get along with the least? Meaning astrological sign is what I'm assuming, because it wasn't specified, but that's what I took from it. If you send in that question and you didn't mean astrological, send me another DM and tell me what I missed Sign I get along with best. I don't think I have a specific sign that I gravitate towards. I would say that my main relationships have been with, like fire signs, like romantic relationships. So my worst relationship was with an Aries, but my best relationship right now is with an Aries. So I don't know, do that Do with that what you will? I don't know what that really means.
Speaker 1:Santa get along with least I don't want to alienate a specific group of people, but I noticed, I don't know, virgos can be like iffy. For me, they usually kind of start out nice and then they turn a little mean. It's kind of like a Sour Patch Kid First they're sweet, then they're sour, or I guess. No, they're sour, then they're sweet, I don't know. Yeah, virgos, I guess I would have the least amount of them in my contacts. Yeah, but you know not to say I don't like, don't, not like all Virgos, but I don't know. That was just the first one that came to my head, so I don't know. Hopefully I didn't just piss off a bunch of people.
Speaker 1:Okay, number two how do you recover from a hangover? Look, I don't want to be the poster child for drinking and recovery and hangovers, but I have had some upsetting hangovers in the past that you know I can be kind of dramatic. I always say that I'm dying, because in that moment I really do think that it's the end of my life. It's just it's all over for me all because I took like one too many shots. I guess the best thing I could say even though I don't really take my own advice would be sleep is number one. If I can sleep away a hangover, it's been a good day, um, and then just like kind of drinking you know, water or electrolytes if you can. Sometimes you get those really bad hangovers though, hangovers though that you just can't drink anything and, um, I've been there before. I don't recommend it it's. It's very upsetting to have to deal with that, um. So yeah, sleep is is my number one thing, but I really do my best to not get to that point. If I have a little headache the next day, I'm like, oh, bummer. But yeah, being so sickly like that, that's, it's kind of the worst and it's something I don't do often.
Speaker 1:Ok, what is your favorite genre of movie or series? Anything you are excited for that's coming of movie or series, anything you are excited for that's coming. I wouldn't say I have a very specific like niche genre of like movies. I like I like all of them, um, rom-coms, action, fantasy, horror. It kind of just depends on what mood I'm in to like watch something. I mean even like the fantasy worlds, like Harry Potter and all that. Yeah, I'm just I'm kind of corny with my movies, tv series. You know, I love Grey's Anatomy, I love reality TV shows. That's been. I think that's been like my number.
Speaker 1:One thing I've been watching lately is reality TV. Um, currently, oh God, I noticed I say I'm a lot. I need to stop doing that Now I'm not going to be able to speak. So, uh, lately we've been watching um, amazing race and survivor. But I've been watching those for years, like back when I was like little, like a child, so I still watch those, love those. Oh God, I said um again. Okay. So, and then we also love to watch, well, rip Vanderpump Rules. That was a big one.
Speaker 1:I'm excited to watch the Valley, kind of I don't know really excited to watch Vanderpump Villa, which is coming up next week, the week after, I'm not sure, but I'm mainly watching it because of Stassi Schroeder. I fucking love that woman. I think she's a God sent to us from the heavens and if she heard me say that, she would agree with me and I think we would be best friends. So, yes, vanderpump Villa is my main thing that I'm really excited about. Yeah, if you guys have any like recommendations of stuff you want I should be watching, like you should be like oh, my God, you need to watch this, then send it to me. Also. I've heard really good things about the Pit which is, I believe, on Max. It's kind of I heard it's a little bit like a medical drama, so kind of Grey's Anatomy. Ish, er, ish. Yeah, I'm excited to watch that and I think this season is over so I can binge it, which is usually what I attempt to do. I'll wait to watch something until the season's over and then I can binge it. I absolutely hate. There's nothing I hate more than watching something and then having to wait a week because within that week so much has happened I usually forget what happened in the last episode. So I just like to get it all over with. Let's see.
Speaker 1:Next question Do you have any book recommendations or and or a favorite book? I hate to admit this. I'm actually kind of embarrassed to admit it. I don't read a lot. I used to like when I was younger. I mean, obviously in school you have to read, you know for like certain books, like for essays and book reports and this and that. But I did used to love to read. I just kind of fell off of it. I mean not to, not that I'm like so busy I don't have a chance to pick up a book, I just don't. The last book I read that I absolutely loved, and then I started recommending it to everyone, was the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
Speaker 1:Oh my god, it was so good it was set. It was. It spanned like I don't know 70 years or so. It starts with this woman. She is in the present day, she's telling her story. She's a famous actress and starlet from like the 50s 60s and she is telling her life story and how she got married seven times and who the love of her life was, and in the end there's a really big twist.
Speaker 1:I did hear that they're making it into. I didn't. I wasn't sure if it was gonna be a movie or like a miniseries for TV. I kind of was hoping it was gonna be a miniseries for TV because each episode I thought could be devoted to each of the husbands and each section of her life. But I do think they're going ahead with a movie. So I am worried that the movie is going to suck, because it's very rare you can turn a book into a movie and capture the same magic.
Speaker 1:But that would be, I think, my favorite book and my book recommendation. Again, same with movies and TV shows, if you have something that I should be reading. Please send it to me, because I don't really know what to do as far as like books. You know I'm not up to date on like the newest and best book. Okay, last question If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you want to go? And I had a hard time answering this because I want to go everywhere. I've been like very few places in life. I mean, I've been like around the US, but as far as like worldwide goes, I haven't really gone anywhere. I mean, I've been to Mexico.
Speaker 1:What popped in my head first, which was kind of a sad story, was we were going to do this big trip for my boyfriend's birthday some years back and we had it all planned. We were going to leave the day before his birthday, on March 22nd, and we were going to fly into Amsterdam. We were going to take a train to Brussels and then the train to Paris and we were going to finish out our vacation there. It was going to be like 10 days or something like that. We were really excited for it. I bought, I spent like hundreds of dollars in buying new clothes because I was like this is going to be my year of travel.
Speaker 1:Unfortunately, the year was 2020 and the world completely shut down the week before we were supposed to leave. At first we were going to go because we didn't realize how serious it was, and then, when we realized what was going on, we canceled the trip. And then the trip also kind of got canceled on us as well, and at first we weren't going to get our money back for it. We were going to get everything but the taxes back and we figured that was better than nothing. And then, like six months or so later, like let's say, like this end of summer, september-ish, I saw that there was a huge jump in the bank account and I was like why do we have like this big jump of money? Like it made zero sense and Orbitz ended up refunding us back the taxes. So we got the money back. We just didn't get the whole trip out of it and we were super bummed and I had started that year.
Speaker 1:That was like my New Year's resolution was 2020 was going to be the year of travel and we're going to go there. We were going to go for my birthday, which is in August. We were planning on going to Hawaii and at the end of the year we had a friend's wedding in St Kitts or St Lucia I can't remember which one of them, one of the Caribbean islands and instead of it being the year of travel, it ended up being the year of, like, isolation and being a couch potato. So it was a really big bummer. We still haven't gone. We went, we ended up going to Mexico at one point. We've gone twice, once on a cruise and once with family. We like drove down there.
Speaker 1:But yeah, I want to. I want to go everywhere. So if you have anywhere that you want me to go or I should go, also send that over. I look, I'm taking recommendations for everything pretty much, because I I just need a bunch of advice. I love to give advice, but I need advice for myself.
Speaker 1:And then, okay, I wasn't going to have this one as a question and then I decided maybe I should just talk about it just to avoid it from happening in the future. I got a question and I clicked on the person's profile and it was a man's profile. I'm not going to say the name, but they had asked me what is your body count Meaning? How many people have I had sex with? First of all, that's no one's business. I was kind of shocked. I got the question and then I was like, is it from a friend? Are they like screwing with me? And it wasn't. It's somebody who thank you for being a fan, thank you for the engagement and sending your question.
Speaker 1:That's just not a question I'm going to answer because it's no one's business but my own. Do I know the number off the top of my head? No, could I sit down and think about it and come up with a number? Yes, I just I don't feel like it. You know I it was, you know, forever ago and you know I haven't even talked about that like with my current boyfriend and partner. We've never like discussed that. So, look, I'm willing to be an open book about almost everything, but I'm not going to say how many people I've slept with because it's no one's business, it's not even my business because I don't even know the answer. So that's that and that's it for the questions.
Speaker 1:Again, if I didn't answer your question or if I didn't pick it for this one, it will come up again. I'm going to throw it out there again. I'm going to do more solo episodes coming up. I can't have guests every single week, even though it makes it more fun, like today. I was so nervous about doing this. You know I feel weird talking to just the camera and talking into just the microphone and not having someone to bounce my ideas off of. But it does help to have the questions that you guys send in Again. You guys sent me a ton of relationship questions questions about your relationship or my relationship so I will answer those. I just thought I should dedicate one specific episode to it. That way it's not, you know, just a question here, a question there. It can be a little more little more in depth. And now I'm going to read.
Speaker 1:I picked two gremlin stories and I have some more sitting there, but I figured these two were good. This wasn't going to be a full hour long episode. Anyway, you know, just kind of scooching into the solo episodes and getting my getting my footing. Ok, let's see. So also, there were names attached to this, but I never specified if you guys wanted your names said on the podcast or if you want it to be anonymous. So because I didn't specify it, and neither did you guys, I'm gonna just say these are both anonymous because I don't want to blow up anyone's spot. Um, so yeah, from now on, when you send in your Gremlin stories, put you want it to be anonymous or sign it with your name like love, emily, sincerely Emily, whatever you have. But yeah, make sure to say whether it's signed or anonymous. That way I know for now these are anonymous. Okay, so Gremlin story number one.
Speaker 1:It was my 21st birthday and this guy I was talking to, like barely situationship status, bought me a table at a club in Santa Monica. That's kind of why I picked it. It was LA based, thoughtful gesture, I guess. I invited everyone high school friends, college friends, la people, coworkers, maybe a few strangers. It was a full guest list. If I had your number, I sent you an invite.
Speaker 1:At first it was cute, I was looking good, outfit on point and birthday glow activated. But then the drinks started hitting and suddenly gremlin mode was activated and I was no longer there. The vibes off, the music mid, the, the guy talking way too much and somehow saying nothing. He was being needy as hell and annoying the fuck out of me. I'm drunk, spinning and realizing that this whole party feels like a favor I'm doing for other people. So I did what any chaotic, unhinged gremlin would do I left my own birthday party. I got in my car yes, I know, illegal, unsafe, terrible but I was a drunk menace with a mission and drove from Santa Monica to Hollywood to meet up with a group of hot guys who were always down to party, one of them being a D-list SoundCloud rapper at the time that I had a crush on. I was so drunk I had to stop at every sign to throw up door open, head out, puke wipe, keep it moving and then repeat Like I was doing a barf pilgrimage across Los Angeles. Somehow I made it, showed up looking flawless minus the tequila sweats and had an amazing time with my new crew and never looked back. As for my original birthday party, I have no clue what happened. I hope they had fun. I didn't and I still don't regret it. Well, bravo to you for surviving.
Speaker 1:This is a full gremlin story. You do something you're not supposed to do, such as drunk drive across Santa Monica to Hollywood. That's far. Anyone who doesn't live here in Southern California that's really far. I know it might seem close on the map, but that's why we say something is X amount of minutes away and not X miles away, because it can be just it could take you like an hour to get from you know A to B, being like two miles depending on where, but that's far and I'm glad you're safe and don't do that again because you could get arrested and or die. So bravo to you for surviving it, okay. So gremlin story number two. Hi, I have a gremlin story for you.
Speaker 1:So me and my best friend were out one night at a hotel bar pretending to be classy. We were two espresso martinis, deep, feeling, bold, with no real plans. We're waiting outside for valet when suddenly this man appears and when I say this man, I mean a guy in a full on head to toe gold suit, like yes, it was designer, yes, it was clearly expensive, but somehow it still looked tacky. He had on gold shoes, gold jewelry and gold Versace sunglasses. He pulls up in this convertible and I still don't know what kind of car it was, because I couldn't stop staring at how his suit was low-key, blinking in the light like he had it's, like he had his own electricity bill. He turns to us and says where are you girls headed? And we were like nowhere really. So he goes, let's go to the strip club. And because espresso martinis turned me into a gremlin with zero boundaries, we were like, okay, he randomly hands me his Versace sunglasses like I'm the newest member of his gold gang.
Speaker 1:We get in the car and he starts playing this weird ass music Not EDM, not pop, not even house, just weird. It sounded like something you'd hear in a haunted laser tag arena. Me and my friend were giving each other side eyes the whole ride. We finally get to the strip club and it's busy Like packed from every corner, and he hands me and my friend like $300 in singles each and then is trying to dance with us and is being really embarrassing. We were over it. We weren't in danger or anything. We were just so icked out and embarrassed. Don't forget he's wearing the weirdest outfit ever.
Speaker 1:Me and my friends snuck in little mini shots and we went into the bathroom and took them and that's when gremlin mode fully activated. I turned to my friend and said I'm taking the money and the sunglasses and we're getting the hell out of here. So we did. I slid them right into my purse like a raccoon with a shiny object, and we Irish exited without saying a word, just poof gone. I still have the glasses. They're my little trophy.
Speaker 1:Thanks for letting me share Love the pod. I should also let you guys know that she did send me a picture of the Versace sunglasses, and bravo to you, girl. Yeah, take that money, take those glasses. You're combining two of my favorite things money and kleptomania. Not usually together, but you got to love it. And the espresso martinis, that's. That's top notch, top notch. All right, guys.
Speaker 1:So that was the end of the solo episode. Again, it's short, but you know we're I'm working with what I got right now. Also, I don't know if I said at the beginning I have a cosmopolitan for this week's episode. I barely drank it. So, as I edit this, I'm just going to pound it and it should be a good day. This, I'm just going to pound it and it should be a good day.
Speaker 1:So you can find me at the podcast socials on Instagram and TikTok, emily2gremlinpod, and send in your gremlin stories.
